Relax at the Holiday Inn in Duluth Minnesota
Hubby and I had a night of “Stay and Play”. Not sure what that is? Well might be different for all but for us that means, our band had a gig out in Duluth, Mn., and since we live an hour away we just got a room and decided to stay. So, it’s our Stay and Play 😉
We were playing a gig at RT Quinlan’s so we decided to stay at the Holiday Inn Duluth which was right across the street.
Sometimes when we gig, if we can find someone to care for our dogs we opt to stay at a hotel instead of driving home after being up for 20 hours. Or, if we know we both want to enjoy the evening and have a few drinks, we will stay instead of drive home. A hotel is a lot cheaper than a DUI 😉 (Or so I have been told). We haven’t stayed at the Holiday Inn Duluth before, and honestly never heard good or bad about it so thought we would give it a try. I have to say that the price was a bit expensive for the location of the hotel and the fact it was no better than a Super 8 or Country Inn. Yes, the hotel was nice, but it was off season, and since there was no complimentary breakfast, or any special goodies that came with it I was hesitant but since it was right across the street from where we were playing we decided we would give it a try.
The room was nice, big, and had a great view. Bed was comfy, room was clean, but not fancy as I expected with the price we paid. We did get a late checkout so that was nice, since we didn’t get to bed till about 3 am.
The shower was nice and big, and had huge glass doors. But, when hubby showered water was all over the floor, so not impressed with that. I soaked a clean pair of socks in the morning and had to put my dirty socks from the night before back on. (not cool)
We stood at our window for a bit starring out at Duluth. We are always in awe over this beautiful city and the water and lift bridge and don’t always get to look at it from as far up as we were, so that was cool. And, across the street on top of one of the buildings someone had a roof top garden, which I so loved! Made me want a roof top garden! LOL!
When we checked in we got a couple coupons for the hotel’s restaurant which was Sneakers Bar and located in the Holiday Inn Mall. We headed there, had a burger and headed to our gig. After the gig we were starving, and completely spaced out grabbing snacks from home before we left. So, we visited the little store in the hotel. DANG!! They are WAY over priced on stuff. Sad, I got a bag of chips (snack size) and hubby got a snack bar and it was $10 !!!! That is just not right at all. These 2 items cost maybe $1 for them to buy. Note to self, bring my own snacks!
Like I said, the room was nice, but not super nice. And, the bathroom had a hook on the wall that was ready to fall off. This hotel is a bit outdated and needs some TLC.
If you will be traveling to Duluth, Mn., and want a place downtown to stay do check them out. Get a room over looking the lake, so you get a nice view like we had. Makes all the small issues seem so unimportant when you can gaze out over the beautiful lake for a bit. And there are lots of shops and restaurants in walking distance and of course the Holiday Inn Mall (Skywalk).
