Wow.. it is really hard to believe that Tony has been on Nutrisystem for almost 4 months. Now he is entering week 15, and is doing great!! He has #2 pounds to go to hit his goal he set for himself when this journey began. But, he made himself another goal now. He want’s to get down to #170 by the end of July. Is it doable? I am saying totally!! But, time will tell since the week of July 17 – 22 is one of our big vacations of the summer and food is very abundant. We go to Rock Fest in Wisconsin every year. It is 4 days of VIP access. VIP means we are fed, non stop, lots of foods, and not always the most diet friendly. But, they do have fresh salad every day. It is usually a salad bar, and then the few main dishes like taco’s, build a burger, pasta’s, steak, roast, ham, veggies, potatoes, etc. So, he can eat healthy choices but I know he looks forward to this week so I am guessing he will cheat a bit. But, the great thing about the vacation is all we do is walk, dance, walk, stand, walk, walk, walk. From our campsite to the stage is about a 1/2 mile walk one way and we do that at least 6+ times every day. We put on well over 50 miles in 4 days with all our walking. LOL!! So, no time for the food to settle…as we burn it off very fast. We are even thinking of bringing out bicycles so we can ride some too. Gotta see if they fit on the back of the motorhome. Fun Fun !!
Anyhow, this week has been pretty good. As you can see, he is down #3 from last weeks weigh in which he was pumped about. He was able to squeeze in some exercise this week. Now, last night he even brought down some free weights from our fitness room and was doing some strength training while watching TV. I have been on him for months to start on some kind of strength training, but he is stubborn! Ha! I think the key is if I don’t say it he will do it. (I am sure you understand)
Tony has found that he is able to, without much thought, keep his foods in check for each meal. Now that he has the plan down to a T, he is almost done. He still has a full month of food on the way and he also has about a half month of food here. Since he eats one meal a day now that I cook, he isn’t going thru the foods as fast. But, that just means he will have NS foods for the next few months to help keep on track. I try to cook dinner at least 4 nights a week. Always, do a protein, lots of veggies, salad and a smart carb of sweet potato, quinoa, or brown or wild rice. And, we both keep in check our portion controls. Like last night, I did a taco stir fry. Took some chicken cut into strips, cooked till done, then added cut up carrots, broccoli, and snap peas, sauteed till done and added a mix of 2 tblsp no MSG taco seasoning with 1 cup of water and poured over the meat and veggies. Added a couple tsp of soy sauce and lemon juice and we feasted. Both of us had one helping. It was so good, and we wanted more but we controlled ourselves and instead had a NS snack and we were good.
Some of the foods Tony really likes from Nutrisystem for breakfast are the Blueberry Muffin, and Peanut Butter Granola Bar. For lunch he likes the Bean & Ham Soup, Black Beans and Rice and most of the lunch bars. For Dinner his favorites are Flame Broiled Beef Patty, Penne Pasta & Chicken in Alfredo Sauce and Grilled Chicken Breast. For snacks he tends to lean toward the Cheese Puffs, Fudge Brownie and all of the frozen treats. Tony is pretty happy with all the foods, but he said the best of all are most of the frozen entrees. He loves the Ginger Cashew Chicken, Cavatelli W/ Broccoli Pesto, Chicken Fajita Melt, Chicken Taco, Ham and Cheese Omelet, and Breakfast Burrito. He said he wished he could get all frozen foods as they are the bomb!
Tony has been very impressed and very happy that he was included in the Nutrisystem blogging program. Even though he is not a blogger and I am doing the work, I think it has been a huge deal for him. He is learning how to eat, how to exercise, how to manage his daily life and that is something I don’t think he would have had the courage to do without Nutrisystem giving him a jump start.
