The Ketogenic diet is becoming a popular trend in weight loss and fitness. There’s a lot of popular diets (way of living) out there from paleo to Whole 30, to low carb, vegan, etc. If you looked at all into these popular ones, you notice some similarities so what make a ketogenic diet worth changing to? I’m going to share with you why living a Keto way of life is something doable for all and can really help you shed those pounds you have been struggling with.
Intro to the Ketogenic Diet
When you feed your body a diet with low carb, moderate protein and healthy fats your body is forced to burn fat instead of burning carbs and sugar. Americans consume in excess carbs and sugar. And, as a result 71% of the population is overweight because when those carbs and sugar don’t get burned, it turns to fat.
To bring your body into a state of ketosis, you change your eating habits by reducing carbohydrates to 20-50 grams a day. Removing foods like candy, sugary drinks, processed grains, fruits, whole grains, and starchy vegetables helps to reduce your carb intake.
Avoiding the Keto Flu
Changing your diet comes with challenges as your body adjusts. The Ketogenic diet is no different. Your body is used to have a daily supply of carbs and sugar. And, when you eliminate it your body craves for it.
It takes 5-7 days usually to make the shift to nutritional ketosis. But, until then you might experience nausea, fatigue, mental fog, cramps, headaches, aches in joints and muscles, hunger and cravings. For some this become too much handle and they quit before they through this “flu”.
But there’s a better way. Keto Advantage™ contains Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) which helps you lose fat, have energy and focus. Also, I helps with symptoms mentioned earlier so no more Keto Flu! In a nutshell, it help you avoid the side effects that often come with removing addictive sugars and carbs from your diet. You sleep better, think clearer, have energy, and lose weight.
I live a Keto / Low Carb way of eating. I know many will say there is no in-between when it comes to these two ways of eating, but I do what works for me. I keep my carbs to 50 or less a day, start each day off with my bulletproof coffee, while in a 16-18 hour intermittent fasting. I eat a high fat lunch about 1pm daily, with a high fat snack mid afternoon and my Keto Advantage drink. Around 5:30 pm a dinner of meat and veggies and a few times a week a side salad. Add exercise a few days a week to this and I am doing well at maintaining my healthy lifestyle and don’t feel deprived, or find myself craving things I can’t have.
When hubby and I are out on the town, I find foods that are low carb/Keto friendly. What helps me, is that my hubby lives the same way of eating. We can support each other and that is very important. Not fun to watch one eat a pizza while you chew on lettuce 😉 LOL!
Healthy living starts with your food intake. Take control of you life, and while others are eating pizza and watching reruns of The Biggest Loser, you can be eating yummy foods like avocado’s, bacon, eggs, cheese, butter, full fat coffee (bulletproof coffee), etc. Enjoy life, one piece of bacon at a time 🙂
