Sleep Tips for Fibromyalgia Sufferers

Sleep Tips for Fibromyalgia Sufferers

Fibromyalgia causes many uncomfortable symptoms for sufferers. However, trouble sleeping is one of the most common complaints that a person with this condition may experience. If you have fibromyalgia, proper sleep is essential for providing the body with the strength it needs to manage pain, combat fatigue and recover from illnesses. Unfortunately, many people suffer from insomnia and pain that makes getting a full night’s sleep difficult. Luckily, there are some ways to make falling asleep and staying asleep easier. The following tips are provided in order to help anyone who suffers from fibromyalgia to begin taking control of their night time habits, and wake up feeling rested and restored each morning.

Create a Relaxing Sleep Environment
Many people underestimate the importance of a calm and peaceful sleep environment. For this reason, a person will want to make sure that they sleep in a darkened room that is free from excessive noise. It is also important to keep cool. Try installing a fan, or using a cooling blanket. Fibromyalgia suffers should invest in a quality mattress, such as a Serta, that is designed to support tender pressure points and reduce aches and pains.
Have a Regular Schedule
For many people living with fibromyalgia, it can be difficult to stick to a regular schedule as painful flare-ups can interfere with a person’s daily activities. However, it is important to at least include a regular bed time and wake time so that the body can begin to develop a proper sleep cycle. This can also help a person to avoid spending too much time in bed as this can also lead to trouble sleeping. By waking up early in the morning, a person will be able to ensure that they will be tired enough to fall asleep at night.

Keep a Sleep Diary
When a person with fibromyalgia keeps track of their sleep changes, then they may begin to identify patterns or habits that contribute to their problems falling asleep. For example, eating dinner too close to bed time may make it harder to fall asleep. After keeping a diary for a few weeks, then a person should look it over to identify ways that they can begin to make changes for a healthier bed time.

Practice Healthy Habits
Daily exercise has many health benefits important for anyone with fibromyalgia. Exercise works to keep you at a healthy weight and keeps muscles strong and flexible. It may also help you fall asleep at night. However, it is important to avoid exercise for at least three hours before bed. A morning or early afternoon workout can be ideal. People who suffer from fibromyalgia should also avoid alcohol, nicotine and caffeine as these are all stimulants that can contribute to a problem with falling asleep. Check with your doctor before you start any workout plan.

By implementing these few simple techniques, anyone with fibromyalgia will be able to regain control of their sleep habits, and hopefully have fewer flare ups. Use this tips for increased health and vigor each day.
