When I was younger insurance is one of those things that never crossed my mind. Yeah, I knew I had to pay car insurance, but had no idea about life insurance or what it was really for. As the years have gone by I have heard others talk about life insurance, burial insurance, making sure their family’s are taken care of when they are gone, etc. Again, I didn’t put a whole lot of thought into it. Mainly because my husband has good insurance thru his job and he does have a life insurance policy for himself as well for me.
Well life does have a way of opening ones eyes to things that they don’t give much thought to. Sadly, it opened my eyes when we lost my Mom very unexpectedly in Feb 2007. My Mom had also worked a good job and had life insurance, but my parents had also taken out an extra policy which I was unaware of. After losing my Mom, and seeing the expenses that came in for my Dad and knowing what my Mom’s policy thru her work was I was very thankful that they had chosen to purchase other life insurance. I don’t know what my Dad would have done if they didn’t have the other policy. It is a good thing that one can get life insurance for seniors at a low cost. Not only does life insurance help with the cost of funerals and burial, but also can help with any unpaid bills one might leave behind. Or, help with finances for those left behind. I know I don’t want to leave my son left with expenses he might not be prepared to pay, so I will do the right thing and make sure I have life insurance.
