No matter the time of year, one can always find ways to incorporate healthy foods into our daily diets. When I say “diet” I am not talking about an actual diet but talking about a way of life. No person should actually “diet”, but yet make the choice to live healthy, eat healthy and groove their body. With so many healthy choices we have to choose from it really isn’t as hard as one would think.
One of my favorite “food hacks” as I would call it, is to take something I eat most every day and change it up with a twist. Like, adding blueberries to things. I am an oatmeal girl. Almost every single day you will see me eating oatmeal. Even on vacation, when there is free breakfast, I am eating oatmeal. Strange, maybe, but I love oatmeal. And, I love blueberries on my oatmeal. I add them to my hot oatmeal, with a bit of almond milk and cinnamon. I love to make overnight oats, and will add in blueberries when I have them on hand to give my overnight oats a twist. Blueberries are such fun little berries and have many fun facts to boot.
We all know how delicious blueberries are, but they are also beautiful, versatile and simple to use. You can rekindle your pleasure for eating when you add some blueberries to your food. Use them when snacking, to help with your healthy eating, and while cooking for fun twists on foods. What makes them even more great is that they came to use from the bush, just the way we like them… delicious! Full of sweet flavor for fun snacking, by the each or by the handfuls. Me, I like by the handfuls.
If you keep up with me here and FB you will know I am not one to set new years resolutions. I don’t believe in them, because I don’t believe in waiting for a certain date or time of year to do what I should be doing every day which is living a healthy life. Setting easier goals in my life work for me. Things like drinking more water, adding things like blueberries to my eating plan. And don’t just think that blueberries are a summer fruit. No, they are an anytime, year round yummy little goodness. The domestic blueberry season actually runs from April to September (my birthday month) and then when that is done they come from Chili, Peru and Argentina. That means you can always find these nutrition blue jewels. What do these little blueberries hold for us? Well they are not only fun to eat but also are packed with goodness. Only 80 calories per one cup, 3.6 grams of fiber per cup too. They have vitamin C, K and manganese which make them a good choice to help us meet our nutritional needs. You can find many more reasons to love these little berries on the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council website, and some recipes to.
