It is no big secret that we all need to fuel our bodies to keep things running smoothly. But, most of us just don’t give our bodies what they need for many reasons. Life is busy, and things just get put by the wayside.. like our health.
We also learned in school how important getting fruits and veggies daily is. Remember, the Eat 5 a Day rule? Well as adults and as parents we not only have to keep that in mind for our own health but also for our kids health.
Here are some great ways to incorporate the Eat 5 a Day rule.
Keep apples, oranges, pears and bananas nearby for easy snacking.
Add bell peppers, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, or mushrooms to your eggs. (scrambeled or omelets).
Mix fresh fruit with your yogurt along with granola.
Top a piece of toast (whole grain) with peanut butter and sliced bananas.
Add blueberries or raspberries into your muffins or pancake batter. Or add them on top of pancakes or french toast.
Pizza lovers ~ try a veggie pizza instead.
Fruit wraps are yummy! Make one using a whole grain wrap, low fat cream cheese and fruit of choice.
Add veggies like green beans, corn, broccoli, or peas into your casserole or pasta dish. Try to eat more veggies than pasta, and use whole grain pasta.
Make a veggies soup.
Load up your salad with cherry tomatoes, carrots, and cucumbers.
I love to keep a bowl of washed berries in my fridge for snacking. I am more opt to grab a handful of berries when I open my fridge and see them first, than grabbing something I know I don’t need.

You know it’s funny that I add spinach and tomatoes to eggs when I’m somewhere that offers it but I never think to do it at home. I’ll have to remember this.
Great tip! We juice every morning for our first round of veggies then do lots of salads and fruits throughout the day.

I make myself at least one smoothie a day, and it always has fruit or berries in it. Cucumber also adds a fresh and delicious flavour to a smoothie!

The fruit wrap is a great idea. I need to do something like that for myself. I love lettuce wraps so why not fruit wraps?!?!?!
