3 Reasons Why More Women are Turning to Golf

A recent trend in sport is the growing number of women who are turning to golf.   There are a lot of good reasons why you might want to join in too.  So if you’ve not yet joined the craze, here are some reasons to help you get started with a sport that’s sure to get you out of bed and into nature.

Gentle Exercise and Maximum Enjoyment

Keeping off the calories can be a difficult task when you’re having to exercise for exercise’s sake, but taking up a sport like golf could be an excellent way to lose weight and enjoy yourself at the same time.

If you play golf once a week, you’re going to be walking anywhere between 4 and 8 miles.  This is great for your heart and lungs and helps to lower your cholesterol and speed up your metabolism.  You’ll also burn 300 calories per round of golf, so spending time socialising with your friends a couple of times a week on the course could be helping to keep you healthy.

Enhance Your Brain’s Health

It’s important to give your brain a helpful hand so that it can stay healthy and remain emotionally strong. Golf could be a great way of giving your brain the help it requires without you even knowing you’re doing it.

For example, golf will help you gain self-confidence and the ability to focus better because of the physical discipline the sport requires.  By walking around outside and carrying your own clubs, you’ll also send more oxygen to your brain which helps to produce more brain cells that – according to research – are necessary for preventing neural disorders like Alzheimer’s disease.

The Thrill of the Sport

If you want to spend a lot of money on expensive equipment, feel free, but at the end of the day, all you really need is to pull up your golf trousers, pick up your clubs and head to the course to have a good time.

Golf exposes you to so much that you’ll wonder why you waited so long to start playing.  Waking up early means you get to be out on the course while the sun is just coming up over the glorious rolling hills, and the wildlife is still out and about.

So if you’re looking to lose weight, stay healthy, spend time with your friends and the local deer population, golf could be the sport for you.

  1. I took golf lessons a few years ago and it was a lot of fun. Mostly, I just wanted to see how far I could hit the ball, but it was also quite a mental challenge, which was surprising. I haven’t played a full round yet, but plan to try it some day.

  2. It would be nice to be able to get out there on the golf course. Walking and just being outside in the fresh air helps me clear my head.
